Sawmill and glulam plant, green electricity generation

The company operates a sawmill, planing and glulam plant with associated pellet production. The challenge was that the existing biomass boiler did not provide enough thermal energy to dry the sawdust required for pellet production.

The aim was to replace the boiler, ensure a constant heat supply and also open up a new business area by generating electricity from wood chips. With the VEE wood gas plant, it was possible to achieve exactly that: reliable, economical and designed for continuous operation. The thermal output of 600 kW covers the pelleting plant as well as the planing hall, drying kiln and residential building. In addition, 350 kW of electrical energy is provided as a full feed-in.

Vorchdorf local heating – Sattledt site

District Heating Network & Green Electricity

Nahwärme Vorchdorf, a cooperative of 42 farmers, has been operating the biomass heating plant in Sattledt for five years. Due to the energy crisis and rising prices for fossil fuels, a new heating plant was built together with the municipality of Sattledt and Raiffeisenbank. The aim is to switch to a renewable heat supply.

The plant supplies 4,400 kW of thermal and 500 kW of electrical power. The electricity is generated around the clock using wood gas, and an additional 900 kW of heat is produced. Together with the old stock, 550 households can be supplied with heat and 1,440 with electricity.

This means that the entire municipality of Sattledt – excluding industry – can be supplied with COâ‚‚-neutral energy in future.

Biomass heating plant Gräsalp GmbH
AT / Vorarlberg

District Heating Network & Green Electricity

The Gräsalp biomass heating plant is relying on vee technology to expand the district heating network in the municipality of Schoppernau.

The district heating network has a length of approx. 3 km and 70 connections, supplying heat to hotels and businesses as well as the municipality and private households.

The new vacuum technology is being used for the first time in wood chip drying. The dryer is encapsulated, dust formation in the installation room is very low and the dryer achieves maximum efficiency with minimum power consumption.

Due to high demand for systems with a higher output, the development of a wood gasifier with a combustion capacity of approx. 1 MW and a CHP unit with an electrical output of approx. 300 kW began in 2018. The prototype was commissioned at the beginning of 2021 and has been in operation since then.

The wp3.250 and wp3.350 series 3 sizes from this development are now available as standard.
