It can also contain varying amounts of carbon dioxide (CO\u2082), methane (CH\u2084), nitrogen (N\u2082) and other gases, depending on the production method.<\/span><\/p><p>Synthesis gases are produced by the thermal conversion of carbonaceous materials such as coal, biomass or plastic waste in a low-oxygen environment or an environment with a low oxidizing effect.<\/p><p>Common processes for the production of synthesis gases are classic gasification (e.g. of coal or biomass) or the reforming of natural gas (with steam, oxygen or CO\u2082).<\/p><p>Synthesis gases are used for the production of chemical products such as methanol, ammonia, Fischer-Tropsch fuels (synthetic fuels), electricity and heat generation or as a raw material for hydrogen wood or other woody biomass. It is a combustible gas mixture that played a role in historical times of emergency (e.g. in wood gas-powered vehicles during the Second World War) and is now becoming relevant in the course of the energy transition\/renewable energies and the level of technical development that has now been achieved.<\/span><\/p><p>Wood gas is a combustible gas mixture produced by the thermochemical gasification of wood in the absence of oxygen. It mainly consists of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen (H\u2082), methane (CH\u2084), nitrogen (N\u2082) and carbon dioxide (CO\u2082).<\/p><p>Wood gas is produced in a wood gasifier at temperatures of approx. 800-1,400 \u00b0C. Wood gasification takes place under a controlled lack of oxygen (pyrolysis, oxidation and reduction). This gas mixture consists mainly of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen (H\u2082) and methane (CH\u2084) as well as carbon dioxide (CO\u2082) and nitrogen (N\u2082). The water it contains evaporates in the process. This is necessary so that the actual gasification process can run efficiently.  <\/p><p> <strong> Pyrolysis (200-500 \u00b0C): <\/strong>The dried wood decomposes under heat into solid components (charcoal), gases and volatile organic substances (tars and oils). Products: Synthesis gas, tar, charcoal <\/p><p> <strong> Oxidation (800-1400 \u00b0C): <\/strong>A controlled supply of air (or oxygen) is used to burn off some of the pyrolysis products. The resulting heat drives the pyrolysis and reduction reactions. Reactions:  <\/p><ul><li>C + O\u2082 \u2192 CO\u2082 H\u2082 + \u00bd O\u2082 \u2192 H\u2082O<\/li><\/ul><p> <strong>Reduction (800-1000 \u00b0C): <\/strong>In the hot zone, the remaining charcoal reacts with CO\u2082 and H\u2082O, among others, to form combustible wood gas. Reactions: <\/p><ul><li>C + CO\u2082 \u2192 2CO<\/li><li>C + H\u2082O \u2192 CO + H\u2082<\/li><li>C + 2 H\u2082O \u2192 CO\u2082 + 2 H\u2082<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Gas purification and utilization: <\/strong>The hot wood gas is discharged from the reactor and purified in filter systems (tar, dust and any condensates are removed) and then used, for example, in a CHP unit to generate electricity.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element
